Scordova Stands Up!

I am very glad that scordova has done the right thing:
My third loose end which I would like to tie up is that I would like to apologize to Ms. Smith if I have said anything that may be construed as an accusation of dishonesty on her part. Some concern has been expressed that any suggestion of dishonesty could be damaging to her career and I do not wish to damage Ms. Smith’s career as I’m in a similar boat as her. I vigorously disagree with her on various matters, but this should not imply that I am accusing her of lying or dishonesty. Perhaps I made some ill-tempered remarks, but it was not my intent to accuse her of lying or dishonesty. I simply disagree and at times was very irritated….
Good for him. Seriously. I'm not going to take anything away from that.

Wow, it lives!

I wouldn't be so quick: read the rest of his post where Sal says "nah nah nah I'm right" and goes on to lecture Abbie about how she's ignorant of information theory - something that was nothing to do with her criticisms of Behe.

It's typical Sal. I suspect he was scared shitless by discovering that some of the people he's sparred with are real people who he might come into contact with (link in case you've forgotten where it is!). Since then he's been trying to clean up and make a graceful exit.

I know, I know. Still, I've been badgering Sal pretty hard on this. I just wanted him to retract that accusation against ERV. The other stuff is predictable etc., but others can deal with that.

If by "It lives!" you're referring to paralepsis . . . yeah, it's been a while. I've been swamped with work. I entered this latest fray against my own better judgment, methinks. But I'm glad I did it in the end.

Radical misreading: Kairosfocus on Saul Alinsky

Just a brief note to respond to kairosfocus, who claims regarding Saul Alinsky: For those who came in late, Alinsky was a neo-marxist radical who saw cultural and community subversion as the means of communist revolution. I cut my critical thinking eye-teeth on Communists, messianistic charismatic pols and cultists, and have wariness about all three. (All quotes in bold are emphasis added.) Truth be told, kairosfocus couldn't tell a Communist from a hole in the ground. He links to a passage in his bloviating web page on "selective hyperskepticism" as follows: His premise for resorting to ruthless radicalism -- as stated in his key work, the 1971 Rules for Radicals [RFR] was that: " A Marxist begins with his prime truth that all evils are caused by the exploitation of the proletariat by the capitalists. Scott Simon and NPR hate poetry

On NPR's Weekend Edition this morning, Scott Simon delivers a commentary about the recent exposure of gang-banger "memoir" Love and Consequences by Margaret Jones (actually Margaret Seltzer). Simon observes that "the book is a fraud, but Ms. Seltzer came within hours of of being on NPR." Wrong . In fact, Jones/Seltzer did make it onto NPR's syndicated show "On Point," and the show followed with an hour-long, hand-wringing examination of how they got punked in the first place. But that minor error is nothing compared to what happens next. Simon quotes Seltzer making up some bullshit about her life and observes (my transcript of the online audio): Now if some Brooklyn or London novelist had written a story set among drug gangs and uttered those words, people might have dismissed them as pretentious nonsense.
